and Damned Proud of it!

The absolute worst byproduct of human civilization is this widespread misconception that good people wait to be chosen and let themselves be acted upon, rather than taking the reins of their lives into their own hands. Hence the unhealthy cultural fixation on being loved--- which, sadly, fuels a huge part of America's economy. I wonder how many stocks would crash and burn if we all woke up tomorrow and believed in ourselves.

This belief, it seems, is indoctrinated into children (both sexes) from an early age. Not just from culture and the media, but from teachers too, who, incidentally, learn it in *their* training. (I won't even mention the PARENTS who teach their children to be doormats.) Open any textbook for elementary-education majors, and you'll find a veritable prescription for instilling compulsive approval-seeking: a condescending attitude towards "different" (read: highly intelligent) children (usually along the lines of, "They have a hard time learning social skills"); a presumptuous assumption that children cannot think for themselves; and support of game-playing and self-denying to win approval-- which these books have the gall to call "good citizenship." Since when is sheep behavior good citizenship?

And people wonder why so many kids grow up to be fucked-up adults who can't control their own destinies. They were taught by weak-minded people when they were impressionable. Weak-minded people who even now abhor the prospect of thinking for themselves-- because, after all, that will ruin their chances of getting that all-important societal approval! Oh, the horror if it!

90% of Americans are in a sorry state-- slaves to a "I just want to be looooved" mentality. I just shake my head and laugh sardonically (in between my bursts of outrage) at the masses who share this mentality-- because they can not (or *will not*) get that you can't be loved by others until you love yourself and others first. You have to act before you can expect to get results. Cause and effect. One of the fundamental facts of life-- and a lesson that should stick.

That's the main reason I'm a Heartless Bitch.....
I also:

  • Find myself often thinking, "That is so simple. I've figured it out before they ever will!"

  • Make it my goal to learn as many new skills as possible. To unnecessarily limit yourself is to stunt your growth.

  • Believe that the phrases "S/he has no people skills" and "S/he doesn't know how to love" when uttered by non-HB's, are red flags signifying projection of one's own faults onto others.

  • Wanted to slap the Janeane Garofalo character in "The Truth About Cats And Dogs", an otherwise intelligent woman playing dumb because she was insecure about her looks. And I wanted to STRANGLE the girl (operative word) who watched the movie with me and implied that because I didn't have much sympathy for the character, I was an unfeeling and unloved (horrors!) philistine. (Who wants to look like Uma Thurman anyway, with those vacuous eyes?)

  • Wonder what color the sky is in the insular little world of John Gray, Daniel Goleman, Ellen Fein and Sherri Schneider.

  • Think Van Halen, Def Leppard and Garbage beat Celine Dion any day. Grammys and an Oscar do NOT mean you're the best singer-- just that you're managed to make the most of today's marketing.

  • Believe that the world may end tomorrow, but if you're a Heartless Bitch, you have lived well, and certainly had more fun than the rest.
  • Yes! I want to read more from Real Life Heartless Bitches
